As a market leader providing bespoke smart energy metering, monitoring and control systems across the UK, our client has long established relationships with the several national house builders and the main utility companies.
Their primary offering is the supply of heat interface units, intelligent metering and pre-pay systems on new constructions of apartment blocks or houses. A recent and highly profitable diversification is the provision of billing services for Utility companies totalling some 30,000 users.
Our client has been profitable for eight years since foundation. Their success has been in part due to their ability to provide bespoke end-to-end systems designed to suit clients’ needs.
When the owners approached us, they were having a poor year financially, with the business impacted by a number of one-off events. Despite a record year for orders and revenues, they were barely breaking even and needed a capital injection urgently.
We recognised that the underlying business had much merit and the turnaround process was not likely to be onerous for an incoming investor. The key lay in the fact that the majority owner and CEO was open to change with new management coming in and taking over some functions – notably the finance function!
We presented to a handpicked shortlist of investors, generated lots of interest, and worked with management to help deliver a number of offers. Our client decided to complete with two individuals who brought the experience and skillsets needed. With this injection of new capital, and with some help from major creditors, liquidity is no longer an issue and hampering their ability to trade. The company has a strong product offering and large sales pipeline and the future is looking exciting indeed.
