With Easter approaching, and many investors and clients having already disappeared to European ski slopes, our London office has a very quiet feel this morning.
We’re pleased to bring you some expert comment from our debt specialist Sean, and in keeping with the ski season, a catch up on Alfie Rich, son of colleague David.
Happy Easter to everyone from B Y Consulting.
Current clients
We seem to have a plethora of drinks and hospitality clients right now. We are also representing an award-winning duo in the music world; they are offering free backstage passes to their concerts, albeit this has not yet been extended to us!
Keep your eyes out for Alfie Rich, you may just see him on television representing his country in a few years from now.
Alfie is a British 13-year-old international ski racer and son of our colleague David. Having progressed from his first tentative snowplough turns on a Norfolk dry slope at the age of 7, he is now ranked 3rd in the UK in his age category and focuses on Slalom and Giant Slalom; training and racing in the Alps during the winter season and indoor snow racing in GBR Championships in the summer.
Alfie continues to improve his skills and is working toward his goal of representing his country as part of the GB squad in the 2028 youth winter Olympics. If you are interested in supporting or sponsoring Alfie, you can follow him on Instagram @alfierich27 or contact his father on [email protected]
Current Trends in UK Business Finance
According to new data, lending to SMEs dropped for a third straight year in 2023 as businesses turned to specialist lenders instead of big banks. Figures from banking trade body UK Finance showed gross lending to SMEs dropped 22 percent to £14.3bn in 2023 from £18.4bn in 2022. High street banks are facing criticism for pulling back from small business lending despite high demand and implementing “harsh” practices, prompting investigations by the Treasury Committee and Financial Conduct Authority. Small businesses have been increasingly relying on alternative lenders in recent years. UK Finance found 59 percent of SME lending now comes from outside the big banks. There were promising signs that demand for new finance may be turning a corner in the final quarter of 2023. Approvals for new loans and overdrafts increased and the rise was broad-based across all sectors. With more than 25 years corporate banking and advisory experience our colleague Sean Wood has been working closely with SMEs and Corporates across the UK helping them achieve long-term success. Sean has delivered a variety of financing solutions for our clients through his long established relationships with banks, debt funds, asset-based lenders, structured finance, property finance and alternative finance providers.
